Chapter 16: Citrus kitsch: Shops thrive on cheap souvenirs on S.R. 192


On any other street, The Big Orange might stop traffic. But this is State Road 192, the old tourist strip east of Disney World, where a 60-foot-tall piece of fruit blends right in. Everything here is bigger, brighter, tackier. The Big Orange competes for attention with the Giant Wizard looming over a gift shop. And the stone ramparts of Medieval Times. And the twin towers for a 10-story thrill ride called the SlingShot.
