Chapter 20: From groves to Congress


The halls of Congress are just about as far way from the 800 acres of dusty citrus groves in Polk County as you can get, physically or philosophically. But Adam Putnam is a fifth-generation farmer and third-generation citrus grower. He is the former No. 3 House Republican, chairman of the Republican Conference and was, at one time, the youngest member of Congress. For now, riding horses through his groves has largely given way to jetting about on Air Force One.
